FIU\u2019s Moss Department of Construction Management<\/a> saw the opportunity to prepare underserved, underemployed adults with no college degree for jobs in South Florida\u2019s burgeoning construction industry. The result: The Certificate Program in Construction Trades<\/strong>, a no-cost training program that gets people into good jobs in an increasingly growing sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With lead funding from the Lennar Foundation, the department trains participants over 14 weeks at our College of Engineering & Computing facilities and other convenient locations. Our program covers basic aspects of construction, following the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) core curriculum. It also includes OSHA training and pre-apprenticeships in electrical, plumbing, and carpentry. Since the certificate program\u2019s launch in 2018, more than 160 newly trained workers have entered the workforce<\/p>\n\n\n\n
